A group of incumbent Republican Vernon County officials have announced they will be seeking re-election in the fall general election.
Making the announcement last week were Vernon County District Attorney Timothy Gaskell, Vernon County Treasurer Rachel Hanson, Vernon County Clerk Ron Hoff and Vernon County Register of Deeds Konna Spaeth.
Gaskell is a member of the Westby United Methodist Church where he is currently a Sunday school teacher and the church board president. He is a past president of the Westby Syttende Mai celebration and has coached youth basketball.
During time in office, Gaskell helped shape state legislation as the Felony Murder amendment was signed into law. The amendment, which is also known as the Tommy Burns Law, stemmed from a case Gaskell prosecuted.
Gaskell has resided in Vernon County for 18 years with his wife, Jane, his daughter, Sara, and his son, Travis
“As District Attorney over the past six years, it has been an honor to serve Vernon County,” Gaskell said. “We are blessed in this county with law enforcement officers who are dedicated to ‘protect and to serve’ and the working relationship that I have enjoyed with law enforcement has been wonderful.
“To be part of the teamwork that goes in to a successful prosecution is one of the many benefits that I see on a daily basis,” Gaskell continued. “I thank residents for their confidence and support over the years and I would appreciate their vote on Nov. 4."
Hanson is the daughter of the late Joel and Lorraine Borgen and is a life-long resident of Vernon County.
She and her husband, Joe, reside in Westby. They have two adult children and two grandchildren. They are members of Westby Coon-Prairie Lutheran Church and the Vernon County Republican Party.
Rachel has worked in the treasurer’s office for a total of 11 years, starting as a land information clerk. She then served as deputy treasurer for seven years and has served as the county treasurer the past two years.
“I have truly enjoyed being the county treasurer and I have a great staff, which works hard to serve the public efficiently,” Hanson said. “It has been a privilege to serve the Vernon County taxpayers and I hope for the continued support of the public.”
Hoff and his wife, Kathy, reside on their farm in rural Coon Valley. He has served three two-year terms.
Hoff is active in the Coon Valley American Legion and Coon Valley Lions, Vernon County Crime Stoppers and Vang Lutheran Church.
“It has truly been a privilege to serve the people of Vernon County as county clerk,” Hoff said. “I would like to thank all Vernon County employees, county board supervisors and citizens for all of their wonderful support and assistance over the past six years and I would be truly honored if I could have their support in this year’s election.”
Spaeth, the daughter of Yvonne Bolstad and the late James Bolstad, is a life-long resident of Vernon County.
Spaeth and her husband, Todd, live in Viroqua and have three daughters Lindsey, Chelsey and Sophie. The Spaeths own and operate Spaeth’s Flooring Unlimited in Viroqua. They are members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Viroqua Eagles Club and the Vernon County Republican Party, for which Spaeth serves as Treasurer.
Spaeth has worked for Vernon County for the past 22 years and has served as Register of Deeds since 2005.
She said she feels fortunate to be serving the citizens of Vernon County in this capacity and would be honored to continue.
“I am extremely proud of the office and the services we provide and would like to thank the residents of Vernon County and the Vernon County Board of Supervisors for their support.” Spaeth said. “I would sincerely appreciate their continued support in this fall’s election.”
