They even have a separate committee just for the coffee.
And after talking about all that goes into organizing the Vernon County Dairy Breakfast, you understand that a coffee committee is a necessity.
The Vernon County Dairy Breakfast is an intricate organized affair with 18 separate committees working together to pull it off.
Karen Ehle-Traastad, the UW-Extension Family Living Agent, and Tim Rehbein, the Agricultural Agent, both serve as advisors to the county’s Dairy Promotions Committee, which works to organize all the committees that organize the dairy breakfast.
This year will mark the 30th dairy breakfast in Vernon County. There have been a couple years when a breakfast hasn’t been held, but most often there has been a dairy breakfast each June dating back to the 1970s. Of course the breakfast coincides with June being Dairy Month.
“Over the years we’ve come up with a pretty good organization for this with the committees,” Ehle-Traastad said. “They’re all necessary and they are the reason the dairy breakfast works. Everybody has a job to do and they do it.”
This year’s breakfast is at the Pederson family farm, Royal Flush Dairy, 355 Black River Rd., just off Hwy. 27 north of Westby.
The breakfast takes place from 7-11 a.m. Those not wanting to drive to the farm can take a shuttle bus to the breakfast from Nordic Lanes.
On the menu are scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, yogurt, milk, cheese, ice cream, Culver’s frozen custard, orange juice, applesauce, and, of course, coffee.
The cost is $5 per adult and $2 for children under 10.
The dairy breakfast program, including the crowning of the Dairy Princess, will be held at 8:30 a.m.
