The construction of a new multi-use trail was approved by the Kickapoo Reserve Management Board at the meeting May 22.
The Dutch Hollow Road to Hay Valley equestrian trail has closed since the rains and flooding of August 2008. The trail is currently being redesigned and will be built to multiuse standards.
The land management committee heard both pros and cons of this move at its May 14 meeting, from the equestrian users and also from bikers and other users and the committee recommended the multi-use designation for the new trail.
The measure was approved with little debate or dissension, which has punctuated such considerations in the past.
The trail will not be available for use until late this season or next year.
The Kickapoo Reserve Management Board also approved the formation of a trails subcommittee to the Land Management Committee.
It was determined that the trails are an important and on-going issue and a subcommittee could do the initial research and discussion. Committee members will come from the board, the Land Management, Education and Tourism, Finance and interested public.
The next meeting of the board is is June 19.
