The Viroqua School District has entered into an agreement with the YMCA of La Crosse to operate the Bigley Pool this summer at a cost of $39,143.
The district will be able to offset this amount by the revenue collected at the pool, which the district anticipates will be between $6,000-$8,000.
As the YMCA and Viroqua School District become more familiar with working together on operating the Bigley Pool, the entities are looking at extending the contract through the end of 2008, Viroqua District Adminis-trator Robert Knadle said.
“What this agreement has done is allowed us to buy some time to keep the pool open for the summer for lessons and use,” Knadle said. “As for what happens in the future we will closely be looking at what happens over the summer and if it would be possible to extend the agreement until Dec. 31.”
Of the money being paid by the district to the YMCA, $24,030 is for lifeguards, $6,080 is for instructors and $9,033 is for administration.
All of the programs being offered this summer at the pool are listed online at the Viroqua district’s website at www.viroqua.k12.wi.us or at the YMCA’s site at www.laxymca.org.
Registration for three different sessions of summer swim lessons was being held at the Bigley Pool this week from 3-7 p.m. The three sessions of lessons planned at the pool are from June 16-27; from July 7-18 and from July 28-Aug. 14. Lessons in the first two sessions are four times a week for two weeks with 40 minutes for each session. Lessons during the third session are two times a week for three weeks with 40 minutes for each session.
There is open swim and lap swimming scheduled throughout June. The pool is offering summer memberships at $100 per family, $90 per adult and $50 per youth. Day passes cost $4 for adults, $2 for children, $1.50 for infants and $3 for senior citizens.
