Published - Sunday, June 29, 2008 Volunteers needed to help clean flooded areas The Volunteer Center of the Great Rivers United Way is recruiting disaster volunteers to help clean up from recent flooding. A database will be created of individuals willing to help in times of disaster or emergency and needs will continue to arise as efforts focus on long-term recovery. Vernon County Emergency Management needs help this weekend. To volunteer, register at www.greatriversunitedway.org. Registered volunteers will receive an e-mail notification and/or a telephone call with specific volunteer needs. For more information or help registering, contact Becky at (608) 796-1400 or bbarnes@greatriversunitedway.org. Access to the Volunteer Center is available by dialing 211 or 1-800-362-8255. Check the Web site for current needs in Houston, La Crosse, Monroe, Trempealeau and Vernon counties.
