The southwest Wisconsin farm made famous by Ben Logan in his book, “The Land Remembers” will be open to the public for a tour on Saturday, May 16, at 10 a.m.

Mississippi Valley Conservancy, which helped Logan put a conservation easement on the farm, and Rod Nilsestuen, Wisconsin Secretary of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection, will honor Logan in a brief ceremony to be followed by a guided tour of “Seldom Seen Farm” near Gays Mills. In addition, there will be a book signing opportunity with Ben Logan.

On the hike, participants will see ridgetop farm fields with scenic views of the surrounding Kicka-poo River Valley and walk into the woods to view bubbling springs, migratory songbirds and woodland wildflowers.

Tour leaders will be MVC Executive Director Tim Jacobson and MVC Conservation Specialist Abbie Meyer.

The hike will be easy to moderate. Extras to bring for the hike include camera, drinking water, bug spray and copies of Logan’s books to be autographed. Wear long pants and close-toed shoes.

Directions to the farm: From Gays Mills, head south on State Hwy. 131 for approximately 3.5 miles. Turn right onto County Road S for 1.8 miles, and turn left onto Zintz Road. Continue for about 2 miles to the driveway of the residence, on the north side of the road, at 51834 Zintz Road. Parking area is limited.

Please register to attend by May 13 by e-mailing marttus@ mississippivalleyconservancy.org or call (608) 784-3606, Ext. 1 and ask about carpooling and/or bus transportation options.
