Once the academic year is over for the Viroqua Area School District, June 5, a trio of construction projects will begin.
Viroqua School District Administrator Dr. Robert Knadle told the school board Monday night that the district is ready to move forward with new flooring for classrooms in the elementary school, sealcoating the high school/middle school parking lot and replacing sewer pumps near the high school locker rooms.
The school board accepted a bid from Selands of Coon Valley to replace tile and carpeting in 12 VES rooms at a cost of $40,616. The high school/middle school parking lot will be sealcoated and repainted by Modern Striping of Bangor for $9,700. Finally, Y-Tri Plumbing and Heating of Viroqua will replace two sewer pumps near the school’s locker rooms at a cost of $6,665. All of the projects were budgeted for by the board in 2008-2009.
In addition, construction is already underway on the third phase of the Viroqua School and Community Sports Facility.
In other action, the board accepted the resignation of technology instructor Ned Lease. Lease has been with the school district for four years. He has been middle school cross country coach, an assistant wrestling coach, the head high school track coach and the Skills USA program coach.
The board also thanked Viroqua Elementary School interim principal Rick Fatura for his service to the district.
Fatura served VES after Kathy Trussoni’s retirement at the end of first semester. William Huebsch, a middle school teacher from the Lake Mills School District, has accepted a two-year contract to serve as Viroqua Elementary School principal starting in 2009-2010.
