As we near the end of May, I’m sure many of you out there have finished your spring cleaning.

Here at the Viroqua Partners, we’ve been doing some spring cleaning, too. I’m sure you’ve noticed some sprucing up going on around town in the form of cleaner “bump-outs” and the green space. Any day now, the fabulous petunia flower baskets will be mounted on their seasonal home, the light poles.

Some other organizing has been going on as well. Two wonderful volunteers, June Pedretti and Kristen Parrott, have been going through old files of pictures and events looking for events and projects that we have been involved in over the years.

As many of you know, 2009 marks our 20th year as a certified Wisconsin Main Street City. We are one of the oldest Main Street cities in the state and have been busy over the years working to improve Viroqua in numerous ways.

Within the next week or so, you will begin to see a number of poster displays downtown. They showcase just a small part of our 20-year history in Viroqua. You’ll see photos of events such as painting murals, placing skyline Christmas lights downtown and the famous Main Street flower baskets. So, make sure you hit the streets downtown to check it out!

The second annual Viroqua Art Festival is quickly approaching.

The festival will be May 30 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The Viroqua Partners Promotions Committee is looking for volunteers to help run the event. If you are interested in providing information to visitors or helping vendors find their booth location, please contact Rebecca at the Viroqua Partners or Kile at Driftless Fair Traders.

Please join us to make new friends, support our artists, and grow our community.

Just a reminder that the new Mid-week Farmers Market has begun!

Located at the Village Market parking lot on Wednesdays, it will start at 3 p.m. and end at 7 p.m., so you can now have access to fresh, local produce and goods during the week.

Last week I was able to pick up my entire meal from the market: bison brats, delicious rustic bread, salad fixings and even morel mushrooms! I didn’t have room for pie, it was there as well.

There are still seasonal vendor spaces available for the mid-week market. If you are interested in signing up for a spot, please contact the Viroqua Partners office at 637-2575.

We are looking for volunteers to help out at the Partners’ information booth for the Saturday morning farmers market.

If you have an hour to spare, consider assisting our market manager, Emily, as she provides tourist information on our local businesses, supports our vendors and sells Kickapoo Coffee to help support the market.

It’s a big job and any assistance you can provide will be appreciated.

The Viroqua Fine Arts Association will present it’s seventh annual spring concert on Sunday, May 31, at the Temple Theatre.

At 2 p.m., Wisconsin pianist Catherine Kautsky will play favorite masterpieces. She will conduct a Master Class with accomplished piano students from the area. Kautsky’s vast experience as professor of music, Lawrence University, Appleton, soloist, lecturer and researcher promises a memorable afternoon for all.

Tickets on May 31 are $15 general, $10 students. Advance tickets available at Bramble Bookstore, $10 general, $5 students and $25 parents with children.

Advance tickets are also available from Sue Walby at 637-3619.
