Shining chrome and colorful paint will splash up and down South Rock Avenue on the Fourth of July as the Viroqua Eagles Club hosts a car show.

Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon with the show winners being announced at 4 p.m., Carl Bosse, an Eagles Club officer, who is helping organize the event, said.

"We’re trying to get the ball rolling this year and we’re hoping the show will grow if everything goes right," Bosse said.

Bosse said he is a former race car driver and all-around car enthusiast. He said the event on a holiday weekend just appealed to him and other members of the club.

The Eagles have permission from the city to block off South Rock Avenue near the Eagles Clubhouse so cars in the show can be parked there. There is no admission cost to attend the show or entry fee for registration.

"We’re funding this through the sale of raffle tickets," Bosse said. "So, we’re just asking people to buy some raffle tickets to help us support the show."

All proceeds from the show will go to the Eagles’ Diabetes Fund. Raffle winners need to be present to collect their prizes.

Trophies for the show will be awarded in several classes, including one people’s choice award, one for best truck, one for a best sport "tuner car" and one for a vehicle shown by a young adult. There will also be a trophy for the best car from any given decade. Meanwhile, Viroqua Mayor Larry Fanta will put the cherry on the sundae as he will choose the "Mayor’s Trophy" winner for the show.

Those hoping to haul in nice raffle prizes need not worry, Bosse said the show has already received pledges to have more than $2,000 worth of raffle prizes on hand.

"More than 60 area businesses have donated to the show," Bosse said. "That’s great support from the business community."

In addition to the raffles, there will be a 50/50 drawing, door prizes, live music, a free raffle for children, face painting and a free gift for every child under the age of 10, Bosse said

For more information on the show, call Carl Bosse at 606-3169 or George Boyington at 606-5143.
