A Readstown man had almost five times the legal blood alcohol level when he drowned in the Kickapoo River, Sunday, June 14.
Vernon County Coroner Janet Reed ruled the death of Andrew G. Wallace, 43, was due to accidental drowning. The coroner’s conclusion was reported Monday morning.
According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Wallace’s body was taken to Madison for an autopsy, Monday, June 15.
Vernon County Sheriff Gene Cary said the initial autopsy results showed that Wallace sustained no traumatic injuries prior to death.
The autopsy also showed that the condition of his lungs were indicative of drowning aspiration.
On Monday, June 22, test results were obtained indicating that Wallace’s blood-alcohol level was at .39 percent. The legal standard for blood alcohol content is .08 percent.
Vernon County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Jim Hanson called the blood alcohol level, “Extraordinary. That’s nearly five times the legal limit.”
